Originally from New Jersey, Sara moved to Vancouver Island in 2005.
Here she enrolled in the Malaspina University-College Culinary Arts program to pursue her passion for food. While a student, she took advantage of opportunities to become part of the Island food scene - participating in events like the Feast of Fields and Terra Madre Day and doing a stage at the Aerie Resort. Sara competed in the BCCA Junior Chef's Hot Competition in Vancouver where she won a silver medal, and she was recognized with a merit scholarship by Les Dames d'Escoffier. After graduating with top honours, she worked at the Westin Bear Mountain Resort in Victoria, BC, and is currently a cook at the Mahle House Restaurant in Nanaimo.

Sara has worked for catering companies and restaurants in both the US and Canada. In early 2007, she launched sarandipity, which combines her love of all-natural, locally sourced, and sustainable ingredients with her from-scratch philosophy of cooking.
Today, Sara lives in Ladysmith with her husband, Andy. She also has a degree in Political Science from Boston College, with a minor in Faith, Peace and Justice. While there she spent a semester studying with the Casa de la Solidaridad in El Salvador. She hopes to be able to combine her talents and culinary skills with her desire to be of service to the community and the world at large in the future. |
